RITUAL SEAT
Yoni steaming is a longstanding ritual associated with relaxation, menstrual comfort and postpartum care. Existing setups are often improvised or utilitarian, with little attention to safety, comfort or aesthetics. The brief was to create an adjustable seat that could accommodate the steaming bowl and supplies while functioning as an upholstered piece of high-end furniture between uses.

A height-adjustable glass shelf changes the distance between the steaming bowl and the seat, while a sliding door allows the enclosure to be opened or closed to vary ventilation. Concealed storage beneath the shelf holds herbs and accessories. The exterior is detailed with an intricate marquetry womb motif, while the white leather seat incorporates a removable upholstered insert that closes the steaming opening and allows the piece to function as a conventional seat between uses. The design draws on fine-furniture skills developed while training under a master craftsman, demonstrated in the cabinet and table I helped produce during my apprenticeship shown below:
